THE CULT OF SELF

Am I a god? It is an inescapable idea in the western liberal world that we determine who we are. Self-realization, self-actualization, self-identification, self-determination, self-improvement, self... and more self. One gets the impression that we are our own gods, powerful enough to be whoever and whatever we want. But is this Christian? Does the Christian God have a role to play in who we are? Does the Christian community have a role to play in shaping who we are? That is, are we even primarily individuals? Or are we part of a group? Or is the group being determined knowingly and unknowingly by the social-media-infused cult of self?

Join a few clergy for an in-person edition of Theology on Tap, taking a look at the unique claims of Christianity in a self-focused world. The format is open discussion and questions for the panel. Questions can be submitted via email in advance or at the event.
